We’re taking a leap!

Date: 6th Jun 2022 Author: Laura Angus
We are adding the newest branch of the Scouts family tree to the group. 4 and 5 year olds will soon be able to join in the fun.
This is an age when minds are fizzing, when energy and curiosity levels are sky high, when little lives are full of wow and wonder. Set them climbing the tree. Who knows how far they’ll reach?
We plan to open our Squirrel drey in September 2022, it will run on a Wednesday evening from 5pm – 6pm at St Mark’s Church, Brenkley Avenue, Shiremoor, NE27 0PP.
Inclusion is at the heart of our Squirrels story, we’re open to people of all genders, backgrounds, and faiths (including people of no faith).
Sarah is leading our Squirrel team, here is what she has to say.  “I’m delighted that I am making a return to scouting. Having formerly been a Cub Leader at 1st Shiremoor I know how committed to providing an exciting program of fun and new experience all the leaders are. I’m very excited to be extending the 1st Shiremoor scouting family with the provision of Squirrels. I’m looking forward to seeing first hand the wonder and fun our new squirrels will experience and watch them grow in confidence, having watched my own children enjoy scouting, I’m hoping parents will also enjoy this journey and perhaps even be tempted to join us by volunteering. Please do not hesitate to contact any of the leadership team if you have any questions and a big welcome to 1st Shiremoor. Sarah.”

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
