Beaver Scouts

Make friends and try new indoor and outdoor activities.

The Beaver Colony is the first and youngest section of the Scout Group, aged 6-8 years old.

They enjoy all that Scouting has to offer; being introduced to outdoor activities, having the opportunity to be creative, explore their local community and experience the excitement of a Sleepover with their friends.

Easily recognised by their distinctive turquoise sweatshirts, Beaver Scouts enjoy making friends, playing games, going on visits and helping others. We have a strong Beaver Colony with 24 young people enjoying excitement and adventures. They meet once a week on a Monday evening between 6:15pm and 7:15pm.

A range of challenge awards and activity badges are available that they can gain during their time in the section to recognise their achievements, there are badges that acknowledge achievements and pastimes outside beavers. The Beavers also have the opportunity to take part in the fun and excitement of sleepovers. It may be the first time they spend a night away from home so it’s a real adventure for them!

The Chief Scout Bronze is the highest and most prestigious award a Beaver can earn. It is earned by the Beaver achieving all six Challenge Award badges, four activity or staged activity badges and have taken an active part in at least one night away on camp or at a sleepover.

Challenge awards

Gaining a challenge badge involves accomplishing several more challenging tasks within the colony. There are several challenge badges across several themes, from the physical and outdoorsy to challenges dealing with the local community or issues connected with the Scouting world.

Activity badges

Activity badges allow Beaver Scouts to become an expert in something you love, or try something shiny and new. There’s a badge to suit each and every Beaver. Some of the activity badges are covered during colony activities but you can achieve others in your own time.

Staged Activity badges

Staged activity badges give Beaver Scouts the chance to try something new or get better at something they already know. Beavers can choose the right stage for their skills rather than age.  With staged activities Beavers get to try the same challenges as Beavers, Scouts and Explorers. They can jump ahead to a higher stage if they are ready.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
