Pancake Day
Beavers and Scouts enjoyed taking part in a Beaver favourite for Shrove Tuesday week formerly known as tin can pancakes but may from now on be known as cancakes after a Beaver called them that.
Empty pineapple tins were carefully prepared in advance by the leader which were when placed over 3 tea lights to create the burner.
Beavers made up the pancake mixture on the night, sprayed the burner with oil to prevent sticking and then spooned the mixture onto the burner. After about 5 minutes we carefully slid a knife under the pancake, turned it over, and cooked for a further 5 minutes. The resultant pancakes were small but very realistic and tasty; squeezy sauces e.g. toffee and chocolate were also available to put on the pancake.
The Scouts also enjoyed making pancakes using the same methods. They were challenged to make the roundest pancake and design the most decorative looking pancake. They had a bar of chocolate as an additional resource.
Scouts then went on to think about the Scout Promise, Law and Values and completing some of the home skills of the Skills Challenge Award during lent rather than the traditional action of giving something up.
