Finally putting the OUT back into ScOUTing

1st Shiremoor is finally back to Scouting after months of zooming through the Covid-19 Scouting lockdown.  Going back to Scouting with limited numbers and needing to adhere to the government’s hands, face, space guidelines for Covid-19 has again been different but it has been great to see the smiling faces of the Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, leaders and parent helpers in person rather than on a screen.  All three sections are back and started with leaders adapting to new rules and getting creative with social distanced games and activities.

Tim, Beaver Scout Leader “196 days since our last Beaver face to face meeting. Socially distanced games. Ladders running sideways instead of down the middle. Rhythm Master – like Follow the Leader but the Rhythm Master has to work out who the leader is. Number Jail with a cool large inflatable dice. Great to see all the Beavers again including 3 new ones and 2 who made their debut on Zoom. Many thanks to all who have made this week possible.”

Lisa, Assistant Scout Leader “It was great to see the Scouts back tonight, in good spirits despite the weather! We played a few ice breaker games and got to know everyone’s “animal” names, a game of “splat” and night watchers.”

Kathryn, Acting Group Scout Leader has loved getting her uniform back on and being back to scouting with the young people.  “It has been fantastic to be back to f2f scouting.  The weather hasn’t been the best but what I can say is the resilience of the YP and the leaders has been amazing to witness and from the photos the YP have enjoyed it regardless.  The darker nights are rolling in quick, and yet for the last 3 weeks the group has still continued on.  Things I have learnt are to be prepared no matter the circumstance for example…..bringing a coat and also bringing a torch!  Awesomeness and resilience are just 2 of the reasons why #iscout xx”
