Expedition Challenge Camp Weekend 2019
Ford Campsite was the base location for the Expedition Challenge camp weekend of 2019. The oldest scouts in the troop successfully planned and completed a 17k hike in north Northumberland. In the evening they cooked their own tea of spaghetti Bolognese and garlic bread, then build a fire and even sang songs. The final morning was a challenge to build a wind proof and waterproof shelter big enough to fit them all in, they did “an absolutely cracking effort under difficult conditions.”
“The Expedition Challenge Camp Weekend at Ford in 2019 was amazing! I was pleased to be given the role of leading the other scouts on the hike, it was great fun even though it was a wet and muddy weekend. It was a good experience. On the hike we were walking along the path and there was a tiny rope bridge, a really steep bit into a field and it was very muddy and one of the scouts slipped and sat down in the mud – up to their waist!” Thomas (13)
“The senior scout camp at Ford is without a doubt one of the best camps that you will encounter with 1st Shiremoor. When I went the activities we did were interesting and fulfilling. Straight away we pitched the tents ready for us to sleep in, which really starts the team building weekend you’re about to go through. The next day was followed by the hike and even though you feel like your feet are about to fall off, you still get a good laugh when some buffoon (not mentioning any names) falls in mud: and besides when you get back to the campsite you feel an amazing sense of accomplishment as you realise you went slightly off course and ended up walking the whole of Northumberland. After cooking your own dinner, you will do a campfire and that is by far the best part of the whole camp, I mean who doesn’t like singing songs, playing games and roasting marshmallows?! On the final day we were instructed to build a den that would fit everyone in for a comfortable night. We were told the weather conditions and had to work out where the wind would be coming from. In the end, (and I don’t want to blow my own trumpet here) we all did a fantastic job and I’m sure you will too.” Gregor (13)
