Ongoing Learning

Mandatory Ongoing Safety Training

We are constantly reviewing our safety policies and have a requirement to complete safety training on a periodic basis. To aid this, a safety training course is available for leaders that are applying for a renewal of appointment.

Training is available either as a face to face course or by completing an online Safeguarding Awareness Training course. The course has been designed using the objectives, key messages and training material produced for the face-to-face delivery of the course but tailored for online delivery. A link to the online e-learning is available here. Once completed, a copy of the certificate should be sent to your Local Training Manager. No validation is required.

Ongoing Safety Training must be completed at least every three years.

Mandatory Ongoing Safeguarding Training

Our commitment to safeguarding our members is important to us and as such we require all appointments to renew their knowledge on a periodic basis. This ensures that all members are aware of any changes to the law or to The Scout Association policies.

Training is available either as a face to face course or by completing an online Safeguarding Awareness Training course. The online course has been designed using the objectives, key messages and training material produced for the face-to-face delivery of the course but tailored for online delivery. Once completed, a copy of the certificate should be sent to your Local Training Manager. No validation is required.

Ongoing Safeguarding Training must be completed at least every three years.

First Aid Training

Leaders, managers and supporters in Scouting must hold a current first aid qualification at all times. The minimum standard for this qualification is First Response, but higher levels of qualification are needed if delivering first aid training or leading certain kinds of adventurous activities. This provision will ensure a minimum standard of first aid knowledge and training across the Movement.

It is not compulsory for your first aid training to be provided by scouting although they must be for a minimum of 6 hours and contain all the requirements set out by the Scout Association. On taking a First Aid Course which is not FIRST RESPONSE please check that ALL the criteria for First Response are met.

A copy of the certificate should be provided to your Local Training Manager in order that it can be recorded on Compass.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
